Review of Invictus (2009) by Bob S — 12 Jan 2011
What a major disappointment from Clint Eastwood. I expect so much more from him! This is your standard inspriational based on a true story picture that by the end of it all doesn't have that much to offer and its just seems like I've been there, done that, seen it type of mentality.
I'll give some props to Morgan Freeman. As usual he envelopes the Nelson Mandela character and is pretty good as the popular president. But my biggest problem is that he doesn't have anything to do. Its as if all he does is stand around and give speeches - to his cabinet staff, to the rugby player, to the country. Its as if that's how Mandela always spoke. Now I don't know how much of that is true or not, but I find it doubtful.
Clint Eastwood continues to churn out outstanding films, but this one was most certainly a miss-fire.
Skip it.
