Review of Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) by Nate B — 04 Oct 2009
When it comes to great remakes, more specifically sci-fi remakes this ranks as one of the best. With only a handful of films widely known, Philip Kaufman is a masterful director. With only a few special effect touches, the atmosphere and the feeling that what you are seeing is not really human is an effect brought to life by the two great leads and amazing camera work.
The hopelessly inevitable feeling and vibe thinking that the world is being taken over is genuinely creeping without being over the top. Most people remember Don Sutherlands face at the end as being the big creep out moment in the movie, but I always prefer a scene at the beginning of the movie.
Seeing Robert Duvall as a priest, clearly one of them, swinging on a playground, shows just how vulnerable we are.
