Review of Introducing Dorothy Dandridge (1999) by Lisa B — 06 Mar 2009
Engrossing biopic from director Martha Coolidge. Halle Berry is luminous as Dorothy Dandridge, and the rest of the cast is equally excellent. The script has its awkward elements - the framing device feels forced - and it's clearly hampered by its TV-movie production values, but for the most part it's smart and always compelling.
Nice old-fashioned score by Elmer Bernstein.
