The Coens' first mainstream romantic comedy gives the genre a welcome kick, with a short, sharp piece that manages to be frequently hilarious. George Clooney gets the opportunity to showcase his matinee-idol looks and - most importantly - his wonderful comic timing, while Catherine Zeta-Jones shines in a tailor-made role.
