Review of Into the Woods (2014) by Andrea R — 11 Apr 2015
I'm glad that we didn't spend the money to take the kids to the theater, and I'm sad that we spent the money to rent it. I LOVE musicals, and the beginning seemed promising, but as it went on I encouraged my kids to go find something else, which wasn't too hard since they seemed to have little interest in the constant changing cast and jumping from one spot to the next.
I love many of the actors in the movie, but perhaps they felt the odd story line would fulfill some goal on their creative artistic path. Overall I was really disappointed in the misery the characters seem to be constantly running from, no one's happy with their lives or what they have.
I also really hated that all the male characters were either depicted as being stupid, incapable, arrogant, careless, sneaky, cheaters, and useless. That's an odd way of presenting a show to children.
It's just a disturbing take on a ton of old tales. I love Melificent and many of the movies that are new spins on old tales, but this was just pitiful. I watched it once but not again. I gave one star because they were successful at making a preview look good and having some humor, but that's it!
