Review of Into the Woods (2014) by Orlando O — 27 Apr 2015
Into the Woods is a unique spin to the fairy tale stories that involve multiple Disney characters in this family musical film. I am not entirely fan of musicals, Into the Woods managed to be a fair film. Rob Marshall direction, production design, the musical queues, and many talented actors did well. Basically, a story and theme about the characters actions and the consequences that it can have. Especially, as the final act of the movie does turn into a dark direction that is surprising to see for a Disney musical. The movie does suffer from pacing issues and felt like 20 minutes of the movie could have been trimmed. It did get a little slow, when hearing the same repetitive musical set piece playing over again.
James Corden, and Anna Kendrick performance and their singing talented was shining through. Sure, there are other actors in it that did give a good performance as well. Into the Woods is a fair musical film, it was slow, it had some repetitiveness, and a dull narration.
