Review of Into the Forest (2016) by Heather M — 28 Oct 2016
Not really a thriller and the apocalyptic setting is background detail and not at all the focus. The actors are good and all, though the story is humdrum throughout most of the film. What bogs it down is the monotony of their lives and the lacking character-arcs that would instill vigor in an otherwise barren film.
Thinking about it, I'm comparing this a lot to The Martian, whereas Matt Damon had a lot less to work with and made the movie brilliant. The emotions of both these sisters is the main focus of the film, and it's all pretty one-note with them going back and forth between sorrowful sulking and depressed crying/pain.
It's alright, not great.
