Review of Interview with the Vampire (1994) by Mimi S — 05 Feb 2014
Another shitty vampire film; better than Twilight but still not my cup of tea. The storyline is ludicrous and the acting is so-so. Brad Pitt is a bit wooden, though Tom Cruise is surprisingly decent; he sounds a lot like Dr Evil from the Austin Powers series actually. Tom Cruise's character Lestat is actually quite funny, even though he's really evil. Interview with the Vampire is a story about a 200 year old vampire Louis (played by Brad Pitt) who is being interviewed by Daniel Molloy (Christian Slater). Louis tells Daniel his story about how he became a vampire and how the evil Lestat turned him into one. Lestat encourages Louis to prey on humans and drink their blood, leading to their death. Louis is actually the good guy who doesn't want to kill people and wants out of being a vampire. Lestat brings him a companion, a little girl called Claudia (played by a young Kirsten Dunst) who he turns into a vampire. The story is long and boring and I'm not a fan of the gore or the vampire genre for that matter. The story just drags on and becomes disengaging. I stopped watching about 3/4 of the way in as I just became fed up with the story. I read the rest of the plot on Wikipedia and the story gets more crap. Brad Pitt is also very wooden as a lead and doesn't show much range of emotion of expression. Antonio Banderas was also in this but only towards the end, but he showed more expression than Brad. Kirsten Dunst is impressive in her performance though and she's only 10! She's the most impressive out of the whol cast. I found the story really pointless. I don't recommend this unless you like vampires. This isn't a love story like Twilight though so don't expect Edward Cullen.
Grade: D-.
