Review of Interview with the Vampire (1994) by Andrew A — 01 Apr 2011
After seeing this film, and reading the novel, and watching the film again...I can truly say that Anne Rice is the 'Madam' of Vampiric Fiction next to the notorious Bram Stoker, and late James Malcom Rymer.
My thoughts on the cast: I thought Tom Cruise magnificently captured Lestat, as did Kirsten Dunst as Claudia, and Antonio Banderas as Armand. As for Brad Pitt, I can't really praise nor criticize his performance and portrayal as Louis.
Throughout the film I felt he kind of pushed the character, and slightly exaggerated his acting as an 18th century born vampire. But, all in all, the film itself was an amazing piece of art from Neil Jordan- from the cast, to the set decoration, to costume decoration, and to the dark atmosphere of the film.
The only issue I have with this film is the screenplay. Reading the novel and watching the movie I can immediately spot out the differences and what was cut out. However, I give this film five stars out of five asI very much enjoyed it.
