Review of Interview with the Vampire (1994) by Ascel K — 02 Jul 2012
A great adaptation. Course it helps that Anne wrote the script to this one. Though they never seem to get Armand right, this was the first movie where I ever noticed Antonio Banderas. This was sort of off the track for Brad Pitt and his being cast as Louis seems laughable but he does quite well, especially considering this was one of his first starring roles.
Tom Cruise had a lot of Lestat's sardonic side, without any of his charismatic side (which Stuart Townsend had in abundance). I think if you combined the two performances you'd get the perfect Lestat.
I do find myself wondering what River Phoenix (R.I.P.) would've done with the role of Daniel the interviewer but I must say that Christian Slater was a very worthy replacement- and the fact that he donated his salary to River's favorite charities certainly does add to it for me.
The soundtrack is wonderful- and should have won the Oscar that year. In short, a wonderful movie and a must-see for gothic/vampire/anne rice/etc... fans.
