Review of Interview with the Vampire (1994) by Christina C — 11 Jun 2013
When this film came out, I was still in elementary school, and my sister was in High School, so she actually was the one to let me see this, and I just remember being blown away. I hadn't read the novels by Rice at that time or anything (in fact, if I remember correctly, that year I was reading Are You There God, It's Me Margaret which was restricted in the school library to be checked out only to girls ages 11 and up) The make-up, and visual effects, for the time, were outstanding.
The soundtrack, full, rich and completely fit the atmosphere they were trying to create. The costumes, hair, sets and scenery, all were just remarkable. The entire cast was great (though Antonia Banderas as Armand) was an odd choice.
I'm generally not a Tom Cruise fan, but I thought he completely pulled off his role as Lestat. All in all, this film for me really captures the essence of the 90's. You see it, and it isn't a 90's film (in the way that Mannequin is an 80's film) but it's a film that instantly embodies what it felt like LIVING in the 90's, even though the film itself takes part mostly in a completely different century.
I'm sure everyone has seen this film, it's so iconic, but really, it's just magnificent.
