Review of Interiors (1978) by Cody D — 09 Dec 2009
It vacillates between being worthy of the comparisons to Bergman and Eugene O'Neill and being almost giggle-inducingly pretentious (for being able to write dialogue better than almost anyone else, Allen can also write dialogue worst than most people at times).
The photography by Gordon Willis is beautiful, obviously evoking Bergman, the performances are good, and there are glorious scenes, and other bits that are less than glorious. The overall effect is a movie that's a bit dour, a bit too serious for its own good, but certainly worth the time.
