Review of Insomnia (2002) by Godwin F — 16 Jun 2011
A solid crime thriller. It took me several attempts to watch this because the first act is a little dry with exposition, long dialogues that were shot in a bland manner, but past that, the movie pulls you in and keeps you at the edge of your seat.
The relationship between williams and pacino is fascinating, wrapped up with an interesting moral dilemma, executed by a brilliant cast (all oscar winners by that point) especially williams playing a clever manipulative villain pulling Pacino's strings.
The film is slightly predictable, but no more than most hollywood thrillers. This is a thrilling ride, entertaining to the end. Insomnia really proves, that even if it is one of Nolans weakest films he hasn't made a single bad film without merit, a feat few directors have accomplished.
My highest respect to Nolan and a brilliant cast.
