Review of Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013) by Ryan Z — 29 Dec 2013
Oh boy I have to quote James Berardinelli from RellViews who said: "Insidious: Chapter 2 is not only unnecessary but it commits the cardinal sin of devaluing its predecessor." I liked the first one better.
This one was slow and although the last 30 minutes were more fast paced with a few jolts, it did not leave an impression. On this sequel we have Josh's (Patrick Wilson) wife Renai (Rose Byrne) under questioning by a police detective about the death of Elise (Lin Shaye).
Unsettled by the theory that her husband is a killer, Renai rejoins her family as they relocate to Lorraine's (Barbara Hershey) house. As everyone goes to bed, Renai begins witnessing strange occurrences throughout the house such as the piano playing by itself when Renai is not in the room.
Josh, who is suspected by Renai to be inhabited by the old woman, tells her not to worry and that everything will be okay. It continues from there but its not scary (remember it is rated PG-13), the last 30 minutes were okay.
If you saw the first one and you are curious then go ahead and watch, otherwise I say pass.
