Review of Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013) by Thesodomizer — 06 Jul 2018
Insidious: Chapter 2 like its predecessor isn't an awful horror movie or a flawless one. On the other like unlike Insidious, Chapter 2 drowns itself in its misconception. Adding nothing new to the sequel and starting right where the first one ended isn't a bad idea, however in this case it is poorly executed and its so obvious: Why are characters telling each other the events of the last film? Whannell makes plot holes and plugs up every third. In the first film it was stated that Josh was a gifted astral-plane traveler and in the second one he is lost and can't get back to his body. It's a loose plot hole and it doesn't make any reasonable sense.
Patrick Wilson does deliver a creepy praise worth performance, there are some good set-pieces but that's pretty much it. Everything is more than the less same as in the first film: The music, the jump scares, the atmosphere, the cinematography... Looking for answers in the plot hole infested script is more trouble than it's worth. It's easy to ignore the illogicality of some plot points and just relax.
