Review of Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013) by Xaralampos L — 11 May 2014
Not nearly as good as the first film. Chapter 1 actually had a legitimate direction...this film didn't. The story is incredibly disjointed, and this film isn't even that scary. The first Insidious was terrifying.
Chapter 2 substitutes the ghost of an abused child-turned murderer (what the fuck?) for the indescribably scary red-faced demon from the first film...this substitution effectively ruins the story. Even worse, this movie actually resorts to shaky cam, as seen in Found Footage films like Paranormal Activity.
I expect it from those films, and they're at least usually clever with it. I don't even know why it's in this Insidious film. It serves no purpose whatsoever except to lower the value of the film.
Watch this movie if you liked the first one and want to see more of the story. It's not awful, but it's not nearly as good.
