Review of Insidious (2011) by Russ V — 03 Sep 2014
Being one who generally isn't into supernatural horror, I went into Insidious a little skeptical, and had avoided it for years before this. The idea of ghost stories and haunted house stories have always been a bit of a joke to me, so the only thing that drew me to Insidious was director James Wan.
Now this is because his recent movie The Conjuring, which ended up being one of my favorite horror movies from recent years, is what made me put my opinion on the sub-genre aside and give it a chance, and then afterwards become open too it.
And what I got out Insidious is a PG-13 horror movie that works surprisingly well, and is probably the creepiest, most effective PG-13 horror movie I've ever seen (that I can think of). But, unfortunately the final act doesn't quite live up to the rest of the movie.
