Review of Insidious (2011) by Nayurin C — 25 Apr 2015
Been a long time since I saw Insidious, and it was much better second time around. I remember enjoying it all the way up until we get into "The Further." Then it got really corny. Now, mind you, I first saw it in a focus group where edits could still be made based on audience reaction and answers to surveys.
And I believe they listened to some of the criticisms that I, and probably tons and tons of others, had about that portion. Seeing it again some 5 years later or so, it seemed they eliminated the corny "Further" portions and kept it pretty scary.
My most memorable scene that I detested was the demonic character with the red face hopping about like a clown. It was so cartoonish. And I no longer saw that in the theatrical version. I applaud them for listening.
And so, the great 4/5ths of a movie is now accompanied by a respectable portion introducing "The Further." And now the movie is no longer laughable as I kind of described it all these years.
Now, it's pretty damn scary. Congratulations. I think they even toned down the humor from those Ghostbuster wannabe guys. I remember them annoying me so much more during the focus screening.
