Review of Inside Out (2015) by Sara M — 23 May 2018
All films demonstrate a characters' feelings and thoughts, but "Inside Out" introduces us to the literal emotions. While other films only show us the characters' thoughts and external emotions. Released on June 19, 2015, "Inside Out" a film coming from Disney's Pixar Animation Studios, directed by Pete Docter reshaped the way we view emotions in films.
Most of the time, the film is set inside the mind of 11-year old Riley, home to all 5 of her emotions. Many changes and conflicts occur due to Riley and her parents having to move from Minnesota to San Francisco.
"Inside Out" is overflowed with color and it is what strengthens its purpose to teach us about every emotion and their importance. The music that decorates the film is also what reinforces its purpose. Riley has five emotions that help her live her everyday life: Sadness, Anger, Disgust, Joy, and Fear. Each emotion with different, yet equally important obligations. In a person's life there will always be sadness, joy, and many other emotions, but to feel happy, sadness will come first. In Riley's case, Joy wanted Riley to feel happy everyday, she wanted to keep her happy since it was her job, but sadness came in the way. Joy preventing Sadness from making Riley feel sad caused a whole journey filled with adventures, conflict, and reconciliation.
"Inside Out" is a film for everyone to watch and enjoy. Full of color, humor, tear-jerking scenes, this is one of the best films Pixar Animation Studios have created. Overall, Pete Docter did an amazing job along with his crew creating and putting out this film. Its greatness is what helped it win an oscar. The cast who gave life to the voices of the characters are also part of the amazing result this film came to be.
