Review of Inside Out (2015) by Olivia T — 03 Dec 2018
Everybody wants to be happy. People go to great lengths to avoid sadness and in the movie Inside Out, this very thing is demonstrated. The award-winning film is fascinating because it allows you to see someoneâ(TM)s life from a curious perspective: the emotions inside someoneâ(TM)s head. While the emotions scramble around displaying their personality in a humorous fashion, the movie shows how we are always trying to fight sadness and almost see it as the enemy. We think sad is bad and we must strive for joy.
As the adventure unfolds, the emotion Joy realizes the purpose of Sadness. In the turning point of the movie, Joy has fallen into the pit of forgotten memories where memory globes have turned black and are fading away. Joy tries desperately to climb out of the pit, but it appears to be hopeless. As she slips after another attempt to climb up, she notices a memory globe that has yet to be black. It is a sad memory that has fallen into the pit with her. Joy cries as she remembers the sad scene, but then looks down at one of her happy memories. She picks it up and looks at the memory and as she turns the memory globe the joy changes to sadness. Joy has a realization and says,âthey came to help, because of sadness.â? It is at this moment, Joy catches a glimpse of how Sadness helps people to heal. Joy comes to the understanding that Sadness is not just some emotion that ruins things. Sadness is needed, just as much as Joy.
