Review of Inside Llewyn Davis (2013) by Cameron L — 30 Nov 2014
The soundtrack, acting and cinematography more than make up for what this film lacks. Although the story may seem relentlessly cold, I still very much enjoyed INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS. As a lover of folk music, this movie touched me on a personal level.
The singing is great, and the renditions of songs like Dink's Song and 500 Miles are some of the best I have ever heard. Oscar Isaac is fearless in this film, as he makes one of the most unlikable written protagonists viewable and sympathetic.
Carey Mulligan also delivers a compelling performance. John Goodman is at his absolutely funniest in this, playing a loud mouthed heroin addict. The cinematography is gorgeous, with beautiful uses of lights and angles to convey what feels like a moving painting.
I highly recommend this film, and regard it as one of the most underrated films of 2013.
