Review of Inside Llewyn Davis (2013) by Justin H — 21 Jun 2014
Amazing movie.
The Coen Brothers make such a simplistic movie that shows a basically a glimpse into the life of an extremely unlucky and reluctant folk musician, Llewyn Davis. Throughout the film it creates and portrays Llewyn as essentially a character which is sort of a narcissistic jerk which you'll either love or hate. Oscar Issac portrays this character amazingly and in my opinion delivered one of the best performances of that year. As a huge folk music fan; I thought that the music was one of the strongest points. The film has many references to classic folk singers with the musical styles the give the character; few examples include clear Tom Paxton inspired character amongst other references to groups such as Peter Paul & Mary and The Clancy Brothers. Inside Llewyn Davis is my definite favorite film of 2013 along with quickly becoming one of my top ten films.
