Review of Inland Empire (2006) by Rakeem M — 18 Feb 2009
On second viewing, this is even more incredible. Definitely a favorite.
So, this is even less coherent than any other Lynch movie I've seen. I can't say I've ever considered myself a fan of his. This one got me though. I certainly dont understand the whole plot, but theres enough of an emotional anchor in Dern's character to draw you in.
This doesnt receive a horror billing, but you should know that it's more terrifying at certain points than any horror movie I've ever seen. This is the actual stuff of nightmares, stretching you to your breaking point emotionally, psychologically, rationally. Laura Dern's acting is crucial to holding this movie together. It's not until about halfway through that you realize how impressive her performance is.
Definitely the best thing I've seen Lynch make.
