Review of Inland Empire (2006) by Chrystal H — 28 May 2009
This is a puzzling film, even by David Lynch standards. I spent most of it waiting for the "aha" moment, and there was not one. Best I can figure, it is what I call an "Owl Creek Bridge" story, (referencing the Ambrose Bierce story) in which most of the action takes place in the main characters mind .
.. Brazil and Jacob's Ladder are examples of these. The challenge is pin pointing when and why the transition occurred. If this is not the case, then good luck finding a way to enjoy the film. First 30 minutes are great.
