Review of Inland Empire (2006) by Jason C — 05 May 2009
Tis only the second time since this came out a few years back that I've allocated 3 hours to watch this and while I enjoyed it much more than I did the first time there is stilla sense of disappointment that comes with it.
Tis unmistakabley Lynch, and tis indeed beautiful but a couple of the things I thought about it the first time round I still feel after the second. Firstly that it'sa tour de force of acting skill by Dern, who I find to be severely underrated, and secondly, that there is far too much weirdness in this just for the sake of being weird.
The Red Room, Club Silencio and the like were weird but served a purpose, a purpose which I'm still to find in Inland Empire so while tis stilla fine movie, there is just something missing for me and I'd place IE somewhere in the middle of my fave Lynch movies.
