Review of Inland Empire (2006) by Johnny S — 25 Jan 2010
A TOTAL MIND ORGY! not a mind fuck that wouldn't even give it any form of justice to just how amazingly complex, confusing, beautiful, brutal, dark, schizophrenic, artsy, clever and downright weird this film really is, Laura Dern is simply amazing in this film, well hell everything in this film is completely amazing, ive seen this film twice and I don't think ive even cracked the baier of all thee is to it, David Lynch films are puzzles after all hence entire websites devoted to dissecting and interpreting his films, and I know I saw this alot but the soundtrack just adds that extra ingredient of sheer brilliance NO ONE can take someone elses songs and utilize them to convey ideas like Lynch can, the sections with music actually feel like full fledged music videos themselves without ever loosing the overall feel of the film as a whole (I KNOW RITE!!!) and the Rabbit scenes are some of the downright creepiest I've ever seen in film, they themselves would take a good ponder to understand, I would go as far to place this above Blue Velvet, above Mullholand's Drive and wait for it.
.... even above Eraserhead as Lynch definitive masterpiece (Not saying all the aforementioned films are not masterpieces because they fucking are) possibly my fav film hands down period.
