Review of Inland Empire (2006) by Kirk V — 07 Feb 2010
Another drug trip of a movie from david lynch. this is much like mulholland drive, at least in its layers of complexity. laura derns performance is huge in much the same way naomi watts was in mulholland.
it has all the stock themes from his other films: harrowing scenes of an unreal amount of tension, horrific violence, all the dark corners of human existence, but still and by the end, he is able to construct moments of incredible beauty.
he may be the person that understands the real intricacies of the moving image and the way that it affects the human brain. but not only understanding that, being able to manipulate and create shots that use that understanding.
