Review of Inland Empire (2006) by Bryan T — 29 Jun 2008
Bascially a three-hour thematic reiteration of Mulholland Drive, but not nearly as interesting. The problem with this film and a few other Lynch films is that you can't tell if it's tightly told or not, because it's so scatterbrained that you don't know what's crucial and what isn't.
So, far all I know, this might be very tightly edited, but at least half of it feels superfluous. Which isn't to say that it isn't interesting, but I can't see myself devoting another viewing any time soon.
(Harry Dean Stanton and a single shot of William H. Macy earn points too.).
