Review of Initial D (2005) by Paul N — 27 Jun 2006
Initial D was originally a manga which was adapted into an anime, and eventually a live action movie from China. This movie sets the precedent for asian racing films. Think China's Fast and the Furious, but completely about racing, and all about drifting.
The flick is fairly fast paced, has some great races, and is a hell of a ride. The cinematography ranges from astounding to what were they thinking? (honestly...ease up on the slow-mo/jittery camera tricks guys).
Storywise, it's nothing special, but it pieces the movie together, even following through with the son not making the mistake of his father (who needs women anyway when you have a racecar?).
If you like racing movies I don't see why you WOULDN'T see this movie. DO IT UP!
