Review of Initial D (2005) by Jordan H — 05 Jun 2007
A very odd film. Very odd. Adapted from a phenomenally successful Manga comic of the same name, the film is hit and miss in the truest sense. The first half is very poor: boring, distracted and full of misused directorial trickery; the second half is far more successful, and is at times very enjoyable.
There are some weird and ultimately unresolved sub-plots, along with characters transforming into completely different people in the blink of an eye; but I have a feeling that if I were a fifteen year old Japanese schoolboy who like cars, I would consider this the greatest film ever made.
Tight demographic there, no doubt.
