Review of Inherit the Wind (1960) by Diana P — 05 Aug 2008
I found this film so much better than I expected. Spencer Tracy is such a wonderful actor and at this point in his life his brilliance is still evident with a tempering of finesse that comes with age. March also gives a powerful performance as a man desperate to hold on to his way of life and his prestige regardless of the cost.
It's a great look at the conflict between religion and science and how those caught up in the struggle attempt to deal with ideas seemingly opposed. The only part of this movie that grates to the nerves is the music.
By the time it's over, you will absolutely hate the song "Give me that old time religion.".
