I know some are turned off by PT Anderson's sense of humor. I think he and I would have a great evening eating dinner and swapping stories. I've heard Inherent Vice compared to Lebowski and it is similar in that it includes noir with a stoner hero.
There it ends. Lebowski is played for laughs with a funny dream sequence. Vice is a 2.5 hour dream sequence where the laughs are not because Doc is stoned, but because the rest of the world is so absurd.
That's why Doc is stoned. Plus there's a dynamite part for a non-porno Belladonna.
