Review of Inherent Vice (2014) by Jay M — 14 Jan 2015
I loved this movie. It's a crazy mixed up Stoner Film Noir. It is very funny. It is very 1970's. It's a very adult movie. It reminded me somewhat of the Big Lebowski. The main character is a lot like the dude.
It is my favorite role for Joaquin Phoenix. All the supporting characters are very believable. Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro are standouts. Katherine Waterston is wonderfully sexy as the the femme fatale.
The movie is very well directed as well. Thomas Pynchon's lines are very deep, and sometimes hang in the air. Paul Thomas Anderson made sure they aren't said by actors talking past each other.
There are a lot of scenes with Pot and some other drug use, and a lot of colorful language. I think that the drug use will make some people will hate it. There was an elderly couple who walked out of the show I was out.
the other 15 or so people seemed to like it. When I looked at the review wall in the theater there were mostly A's and some very bad reviews. nothing in between. I'm on the loved it side. I laughed out loud a bunch of times, and I'm going to see it again at some point, because It was very intriguing.
:P.
