Review of Inherent Vice (2014) by Pryce P — 17 Jan 2015
I have liked all of Paul Thomas Anderson's films up until this one. I want my money back. There should be a law about making a film this boring and then being nominated for every award possible. I've never seen anything so boring and overly confusing for no reason at all.
To compare to another adapted, period-piece, detective story, let's use L.A. Confidential as an example. L.A. Confidential was 100,000 pages of amazing James Elroy. L.A. Confidential was adapted to screenplay using carefully picked out details and actions to masterfully squeeze into 2 hours. These details were picked because smart people knew they would help tell the STORY very comprehensively.
In Inherent Vice, it seems like the book was also 100,000 pages long, only that it was adapted only using the most VAGUE and WEIRD details for the script.
So the film its self it just horribly boring and it was waaaaaaaaaaaay too long.
Please watch paint dry if you are asked to go watch Inherent Vice. Wet paint drying eventually on any surface make sense.
