Review of Inherent Vice (2014) by Joe R — 17 Aug 2015
An enjoyable, yet incredibly confusing roller coaster ride through the wild life of a 1960's private investigator. I've read other reviews that say you REALLY need to pay attention to who's on screen at all times.
If a name is mentioned, remember it! If someone references someone or something you better gosh darn hold onto that information. I can say that I did my darndest to do such that, and still left this movie scratching my head.
That's not to say I didn't enjoy it, because I really did. Much of the absurdity that Doc encounters is totally laughable and utterly strange. It's hard to imagine such a wild and weird story ever happening, yet it also feels like something so confusing and convoluted it could be real.
I've even heard P.T. Anderson quoted as saying even he doesn't know what the movie is really about. When the director, and god knows how many critics can't tell you what the movies about, yet it's still a fun ride, well then I think you've got something really special.
Odd, confusing, and WAY out there, but also pretty special.
