Review of Ingrid Goes West (2017) by Nadjib R — 30 Jan 2018
Ingrid Goes West does a lot of things at once, on one hand, the film is a case study of people's obsession with their image and other people perception of them, It does that by highlighting how social media has potentially ruined our ability to function as a healthy society, what Matt Spicer the director of the film hopes to achieve is to portray how modern societies work in the midst of this ongoing war on privacy and the standardised social norms that day in and day out inflect a lot of pain and emotional disturbance around the world, The film pulls that off quite amazingly, Aubrey Plaza who plays Ingrid captures the core of this problem by allowing her character to sink deep into the dark world of social media and its damaging side effects.
In a few words, the film is actually good because it sets a goal for itself and it achieves it wonderfully.
