Review of Ingrid Goes West (2017) by Liam H — 05 Feb 2018
In all honesty this movie takes about an hour to really get into the nitty gritty, entertaining parts of the story. There are other things about this movie that keep you watching. The movie is surpisingly funny at times.
There are a bunch of great performances in this movie. Pretty much all of the main characters give memorable performances in this. Also all of the performances are very realistic, the characters look, say and appear as real people we all have met at one time or another.
The movie is also very contemporary with it's subject matter. The fact that social media is the major theme of the movie and is an insight into how that has impacted people in the modern world is also another reason that keeps you glued to the screen.
When the crux of all the intersting parts of the story go into full flow after about an hour or so the movie is very entertaining and unique. Aubrey Plaza's performance in this is incredible I thought.
I considered giving this movie 5 stars because of the acting and the originality of the story. However I didn't like the ending. It felt like a movie about such a contemporary issue it should have had a message in it's ending and I didnt like that message.
Maybe it doesn't need to have a message though...I just think it would have been more powerful if it did. Also because the movie is kind of slow in the first and middle acts, I couldn't bring myslef to give it a 5.
