Review of Inglourious Basterds (2009) by Erik T — 18 Jun 2013
Being Jewish makes me biased, but this film is simply stunning.
Tarantino is known for building up some real hardcore tension, and does not stray far from the formula in creating this film.
With a soundtrack that includes pieces by Ennio Morricone, Tarantino creates a WWII scenario that is funny, despite being historically inaccurate. Eli Roth as Donny "The Bear Jew" Donowitz is superb, Michael Fassbender gives a comical performance as a British Intelligence Officer who happens to be extremely fascinated with films, and Til Schweiger as the memorable Nazi-killer Hugo Stiglitz. The three main performances are given by Melanie Laurent, Brad Pitt, and Oscar winner Christoph Waltz.
Beautiful ensemble acting, excellent writing, and Nazi-scalping makes for one hell of a movie.
