Review of Inglourious Basterds (2009) by Mitchell N — 02 Jun 2015
While some scenes do hit all the right keys. Garnering a surprising level of suspense and character. The movie as a whole however is fairly boring. Build up is imperative when coming closer to an action scene, but when the payoff is not only over too quickly but literally gaining nothing.
The time you spent waiting for the closure becomes... meaningless. In a bar scene, it takes nearly 25 minutes to reach the climax of the buildup. A long, drawn out scene that struggles to keep your attention as they speak of unrelated or unimportant topics.
While yes this can build character, but it all becomes meaningless during the 10 second climax where everyone kills eachother and you're left with nothing gained from almost 30 minutes of listening, reading and investment.
That in a nutshell is what is wrong with this movie. It does have some scenes and some rare moments that make it an interesting watch, but I was thoroughly disinterested.
