Review of Inglourious Basterds (2009) by First L — 25 Sep 2018
Pretty darned good movie--here's why: Tarantino can flat out write dialogue, in multiple languages. Christolph Waltz and Diane Kruger are Fan-fucking-tastic actors. Fessbender does a nice job as a snobby Brit officer (met and worked with a few in real life).
Brad Pitt is ok, has some memorable lines and a colorful character. Nobody else is really all that... The revisionist history is stupid, but we have to kowtow to Harvey "Couch-casting" Weinstein right? Even with the flagrant Jew worship, Tarantino manages to paint both Jews and Germans as human, despite the views of their enemies.
Bravery... Human beings... The counterpoint between the two discussions on nicknames..there's just too much here to like to let the stupid stuff get in the way. And the languages...if you speak any French and/or German, you're in for a treat.
Gotta have the obligatory Tarantino foot-fetish rubbish--really wish he would come to grips with the fact that 99% of the rest of humanity just doesn't care that much about feet.
