Review of Inglourious Basterds (2009) by Bill M — 11 Feb 2018
Brutal, hilarious and very bold, Inglorious Bastards is Tarantino rewriting history in a thrillingly ballsy way, he seems to be stating to probably mortified historians and even other filmakers, "this is the movies, here I can do what the fuck I want".
It's this dark, bold playfulness right down to the song choices ( an 80's David Bowie song in a world war 2 film? genius!) that makes this film so electric and so liberating to watch as a filmgoer.
No one has the balls to give us what we want and need as film viewers like Tarantino dose, with his strange patchwork melding of direct film homages and jukebox music from different eras and even other films adding up to something completely new and incendiary, the man is truly a mad magician of film.
