For those aquainted with the independant sci-fi canon this will rank quite highly on their lists of contained survival-horror films. There seems to be a concensus amongst those reviewing this film that it is overly derivitive of such classics as Alien, the Thing, or Event Horizon.

While it certainly looks like many of these higher-budget blockbusters, it carves out its own distinct identity through a well-developed story-universe with simple and understandable mechanics. It carefly lets the audience know only what is needed, never allowing the audience to feel complete certainty over which elements pose mortal danger to the characters.

It's highly polished set design and costume work never take the audience outside the story, while the VFX environments succesfully contribute to the atmosphere of both the Future-Earth and Mining Station locations.

Is this a revolutionary work of science fiction? No. It is however an effective genre piece that understands what it is and excels in it. I thoroughly enjoyed this film, and if more independant sci-fi starts looking like this we'll all be lucky.

On another note, if there was a list which this film fit aesthetically well on it would include films like Dante 01, Cargo, and Lockout.
