Review of Inferno (2016) by Cath O — 14 Oct 2016
I know Dan Brown gets a bad press but I really enjoyed the book of Inferno and this film is really very faithful to the book (except for rather big changes to the very end. Guess they thought the final developments were a plot twist too far!).
The main fun of these films is seeing Tom Hanks and his young female partner race around Europe and if you like that, this film will tick those boxes. Hanks has a head injury for much of this film so we get a bit of 'is it real?' dreamy stuff. Felicity Jones is fine and as a Borgen fan I was happy to see Sidse Babette Knudsen get a decent role. However I have a problem with this decision to basically give away the entire plot in the TRAILER! The book worked as us readers - like Robert Langdon - are in the dark from the start, not knowing what is going on no why it is all happening. To take away that mystery takes away some of the impact. Still, as always director Rom Howard does a nice European travelogue movie. Its not going to convert non-fans but I enjoyed it.
