Review of Inferno (2016) by Giorgio G — 01 Nov 2016
Well, I finally saw it last night, and even though I don't regret it, it was kind of a downer. There is a lot of action, and the whole movie is fast-paced, using beautiful scenarios like Firenze, Venice and Istanbul, but Ron Howard's directing was abysmally bad.
Right from the start it seems that he believes all moviegoers are stupid morons and don't pay attention to details. At the end of the initial chase scene, the culprit ends up between arches on top of a tower in Firenze, clearly right above rooftops of the adjacent building below.
But when the guy falls to his death, he drops into empty space just showing the street in the background, only to show the body falling onto rooftops again, but in a completely impossible angle, even in relation to the initial view of him.
That's a complete disrespect to us the spectators. What were you thinking, Ron? And it goes on in similar fashion. Langdon always finds a side entrance to any building, even highly guarded ones, slipping in undetected, even to very touristy palaces and such.
If all those side doors were open, nobody would ever pay the 10 or 20 Euro entrance fees, right? And, naturally in a few days there would be nothing left inside those museums/palaces as a couple thousand crooks will have used these, according to Ron Howard, always open side doors.
Come on, Ron, we are not all brain dead!!! Then inside those museums, etc. the confrontations/fights always take place in empty halls while the last image showed the place packed with tourists. Where did they all suddenly go? It's ridiculous.
In others scenes Langdon and his companion are floors above the persecutors, but within seconds they get out of the building before the police, etc. which were originally already below them. Pleaaaaaase, Ron, don't take us all for idiots.
And the worst is the final scene where there are hundreds of policemen around for 10 minutes, but nobody comes to help him except in the last seconds. That's insane! I liked the movie for the general story and the scenery, but the director really screwed up the whole thing for anybody a bit more skeptical.
4/10 points.
