Review of Infernal Affairs II (2003) by Frederic H — 17 Feb 2008
A very good movie. Not as great as the original. This is for two reasons. The first being that the two actors who played the two main characters in the original are absent. They are, instead, replaced by the two actors who also played the younger versions of them in the original since this is a prequel. The second reason is that it starts off really confusing. It pulls together a little ways into the movie, but there were several moments I had to rewind to get the basics of. That's probably because of the fact that it's in a foreign language and I'm reading subtitles, though.
It serves its purpose greatly, however. All the pieces fit into place and it's really interesting to see how everything came to be the way it was in the first film. The double-crosses are really enjoyable to watch, as well.
Overall, though, this almost reminded me more of the Godfather than the first movie.
