Review of Infernal Affairs II (2003) by Keith T — 29 Mar 2008

I wanted to not like this mainly because the two lead guys are known to be garden variet pricks in real life but I shouldn't really let that mar my opinon of the film.

Like the first, it ignores convential pace and style of HK gangster flicks and keeps to its own mythology and its own philosophies. This time around, ti concerntrates more on the relationship between the cop boss and the mob boss and how each person got to where they were with the previous stars (Yan and Ming) being relegated to second place in terms of the storyline.

Once again, subtle performances all round and very nicely mirrored events (all going to fit in with the Buddhist themes) amkes this much better than I expected. It's not as good as the first film but it is damned close.
