Review of Infernal Affairs (2002) by Morten Ø — 13 Jan 2009
No question about it, this movie is really good. However, I must admit that I like Scorsese's interpretation, 'The Departed', a bit more. Aesthetically this movie is perfection in some scenes, but a bit fuzzy in other scenes. What works really well is especially the shots on the rooftops in the beginning and end of the movie - Look at the cover to see what I mean, it's pretty beautiful.
The plot is of course great and credit to Siu Fai Mak and Felix Chong, who I believe have written the script. Still I think a lot of the mutual relations between the characters I covered a bit too fast in this one, especially compared to 'The Departed'. We never really feel attached to the relationship between the rats and their employers like we feel between Leonardo/Jack nor between Damon/Sheen. The movie is good though and the plot and some of the scenes are really beautiful.
