Review of Infamous (2006) by Roger G — 05 Aug 2007
When I saw "Capote" at the cinema last year or so, I thought it was the pinacle of achievement when it came to both storytelling and last but not least the actors, specially Phillip Seymor Hoffman. But that was untill I saw "Infamous"!
It's the same story basically, but told in a more honest way! Truman Capote is much more the kind of person I've heard he was in this production, and that goes for the rest of the characters too. It looks to me "Capote" is the Hollywood version of the story while "Infamous" is more down to the reality! The special bond between Truman and one of the murderers (Craig) is much more intense, and Craig is giving us a strong character with a lot of anger underneath the surface.
The score by Rachel Portman is, like her work for "Cider House Rules" and "Emma", perfection in every tune and theme!
Not to mention the list of actors - I haven't seen an ensemble of great actors like this since "Bobby" and all the films from Robert Altman. And not a singel one of them disapoints me! Beside Toby Jones, Sandra Bullock is the strongest one and proves again what an actor she really is!
Forget "Capote", this is the only one you need to see!
