Review of Infamous (2006) by Robt — 09 Feb 2007
Two biographical performances in contemporary film have recently been praised almost endlessly for the quality of the performances. Philip Seymour Hoffman in "Capote" and Charlize Theron in "Monster".
While these are two powerful performances, the actors did not embody their characters. You believe that they are actors playing a character. Toby Jones on the other hand WAS Truman Capote. You don't see an actor playing a role you know is bound to get an oscar; you see the character.
He got lost in the part entirely, which in the end made his performance far superior.
