Review of Indochine (1992) by Emily G — 06 Apr 2006
I'm beginning the rather lengthy task of entering into the database every film I have seen, at least those I have a decent memory of. Some may have the briefest of reviews while many will just have a number. Those films that I consider personal favorites and/or those that have some historical signficance I will add later when I have time for more lengthy reviews.
Unlawful Entry, directed by Jonathan Kaplan, is a psychological thriller with a severely riddled script. Features Kurt Russell, Madeleine Stowe and Ray Liotta.
Used People, directed by Beeban Kidron, is a romantic comedy featuring a fine ensemble cast including Shirley MacLaine, Marcello Mastroiani, Jessica Tandy, Kathy Bates, Marcia Gay Harden, and Joe Pantoliano. Unfortunately the fine cast can't overcome some serious writing flaws in the script.
Volcano, directed by Mick Jackson, is a horrible disaster film starring Tommy Lee Jones, Anne Heche, and Don Cheadle.
Did we really need two volcano pictures in one year? No we didn't! But if you have to watch one, pick the lesser of the two evils, which would be Dante's Peak, directed by Roger Donaldson. The film didn't have as big of a budget, but it's almost watchable. Stars Linda Hamilton and Pierce Brosnan.
Indochine, directed by Regis Wargnier, is an epic romance that won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language of 1992. It's overwrought and probably not deserving of that award, but it's notable for Catherine Deneuve's performance.
